Location

The Morrison Building occupies the prime position in the town opposite the train station and in front of the ferry terminal.Mallaig lies approximately 40 miles west of Fort William in the Arisaig peninsula. Whilst the local economy was established primarily around the fishing industry, in modern times the area has become one of the most prominent tourist destinations in Scotland.

The West Highland railway line links Mallaig to Fort William, Oban, and Glasgow. This is enormously popular during the spring and summer months with the rail journey passing over the Glenfinnan viaduct, made famous in the Harry Potter movies, bringing more than 500,000 tourists to the area. Mallaig is also an important ferry port, with regular services to the Isle of Skye, South Uist and the Small Isles of Canna, Rùm, Eigg and Muck. In addition, a local ferry service sails daily to Inverie in Knoydart, a remote village only accessible by sea.
