The site containing a vacant former factory building was acquired in May 2011. Outline planning consent was obtained for the development of a new build 20,000 sq ft food store. The scheme was then amended to provide a 7,500sqft retail parade first phase, with a second phase of 40 residential apartments. The retail scheme anchored by a 4,500 sqft Unit pre-let to the Co-Op was sold in November 2015.

The Mid Road estate is located adjacent to Prestonpans Railway Station at the entrance to Prestonpans. Prestonpans is a rapidly expanding commuter town, 13 miles from Edinburgh City Centre (10 minutes by train to Edinburgh Waverley). The town is 0.5 miles from the A1, the main trunk road connecting Edinburgh with the south.
